You’re invited!
Please join us for a special screening of The Worm’s-Eye View of the Bird, a new animated short by Miller Arts Scholar and Drama alumna Karen Zipor on March 19, 2026 at 6:30 PM in the Culbreth Theater, Department of Drama.
Karen (writer, director, and producer) is a Television Academy alum in Animation and currently works as a full-time producer creating content for studios including Disney, DreamWorks, and Warner Bros., as well as animated television projects such as ARK: The Animated Series. She is also the Webby Award–winning producer of Brittany Broski’s Royal Court, a celebrity interview show featuring guests such as Josh Gad, Saoirse Ronan, Nicholas Hoult, and many others.
As the founder of Zipped Up Films, Karen’s work spans both live-action and animation, including A Painterly Hand and Blessing On Your Head. A UVA Miller Arts Scholar graduate (Class of 2022), Karen holds dual degrees in Drama and Computer Science. Her work reflects a deep interest in the intersection of technology and the arts, combining artistic vision with innovative storytelling techniques. Her storytelling often explores the duality of love as both comedy and horror.
Karen is currently based in Los Angeles. More of her work can be viewed at: www.karenzipor.com
Following the screening, Karen will join us for a Q&A conversation to discuss her film, creative process, and experiences since graduating from the program. We are thrilled to welcome her back and look forward to the opportunity for her to meet with the current Miller Arts Scholars cohort!
About the Film; The Worm’s-Eye View of the Bird draws from a deeply personal story. Despite its title, the film is not inspired by the familiar internet meme, but by Karen’s own experience of leaving behind a first love while pursuing her path as a filmmaker in Los Angeles. The film reflects on heartbreak, memory, and the lingering presence of past relationships—how memories can burrow into the mind like worms, and how people sometimes remain part of our lives from afar long after a separation.
Please join us for an engaging evening of film and conversation!
