Virginia Players

Who We Are

Image
Virginia Players

Virginia Players was founded in the 1920s, first as a student club dedicated to producing plays at a time when there was no drama program at the University of Virginia. It wasn't until the early 1930s that a course in playwriting was offered at the University, taught by Harry Rogers Pratt. For almost twenty years, Virginia Players fostered a community of actors and artistts on Grounds until they became the Department of Speech and Drama after World War II. Now, Virginia Players serves as the student wing of the Drama Department -- any student who has participated in drama and theater at the University is a member of Virginia Players, committed to the promotion of student work and education.

Our Mission

Virginia Players is a student-run organization committed to providing opportunities to refine artistic skills, connect with professionals within and outside the Department, and bridge the gap between student theater and the Department in a supportive environment.
