University of Virginia

The Department of Drama welcomes applications to the Rising Scholars Postdoctoral Fellows Program.  The department particularly invites post-degree scholars or creative artists working in theatre and performance studies, new media, or dance, whose work engages issues of race, justice, and equity in contemporary or historical theatre and dance. Fellows will join a liberal-arts department encompassing a range of teaching opportunities as well as research and creative specialties. For questions please contact Richard Will (rw6w@virginia.edu) or Doug Grissom (ldg2h@virginia.edu).

Applicants must have received the Ph.D. or M.F.A. between August 24, 2019 and August 24, 2022. Fellows selected under this program will be appointed for two years (subject to annual review) and will carry out research, teaching and professional development.  In addition to mentoring within the department, Fellows will join a university-wide cohort for additional career development programs and opportunities.

Recognizing that teaching is an important part of preparation for a faculty position, fellows will participate in course development training and mentoring during their first semester and teach one independent course in each of the following three semesters.

To apply please visit the Rising Scholars Postdoctoral Fellows Program main page. The application includes a cover letter; diversity, equity, and inclusion statement; resume or CV; research and teaching statement; work sample; and references. Review of applications will begin February 2, 2022.
