Annie Temmink

Lecturer, Drama

Biography:

Annie is an artist and educator focused on material, psychology, and movement. Through costume, creatures, painting, and performance, Annie aims to tell stories of deeply embodied, inner-psychological states. Much of her inspiration stems from research on a Watson Fellowship in traditional textile design and fabrication with master craftsfolk in Indonesia, Japan, India, Uganda, Ghana, and Tanzania.

Annie’s research centers on materials and seeks to blend ecological and ancient approaches to fabrication with modern processes.

In her teaching, she invites students to develop individual paths into the unknown, to bring awareness to the embodied process of making, and to practice conscientious collaboration.

Her work has been shown globally, including receiving the Best New Entrant Award at the World of Wearable Art in Wellington, New Zealand, and featured at the Innovative Costumes of the 21st Century: The Next Generation exhibit at A. A Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum in Moscow, Russia. She has also worked on projects for Ke$ha and The Dave Mathew’s Band and is the Associate Technical Director at Live Arts.

Annie has a BA in Sculpture and Math from Davidson College and loves to dance.
